JIKWAMUE Project
JIKWAMUE Project focuses on enhancing their socioeconomic well-being through various initiatives, particularly HIV prevention. We aim to increase HIV testing and the uptake of prevention options such as Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and condom usage.
Collaborating closely with AGYW and local authorities in the respective wards, we provide a platform for constructive dialogues with healthcare workers to improve adolescent-friendly Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services. As part of our efforts, we recently organized the JIKWAMUE Youth Camp.
The JIKWAMUE Youth Camp served as a dynamic forum for dialogue, workshops, and capacity-building sessions focused on SRH issues, including Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), HIV/AIDS, early pregnancy, family planning, and economic empowerment. Over 62 young individuals aged 15-25 from Kigamboni and Kinondoni districts in Dar-Es-Salaam participated in the camp. Our objective was to share evidence, tools, and experiences related to SRHR, encouraging discussions on the challenges and opportunities within the sector. By connecting AGYW and youth with their peers, researchers, local and central authorities, and development partners, we aimed to gain insights into the HIV infection rates and SRHR (family planning) among young people in Tanzania.
